When making your holiday plans, the world is very nearly your oyster, depending on your budget.
And while we wouldn’t want to put you off your dreams of such things as a Parisian romance or an Amazonian adventure, there are lots of reasons why you might decide to uncover the hidden pearls of a UK vacation instead.
Here are some of the reasons why.
#1: You don’t need to go abroad for a beach holiday
St. Ives, Cornwall (Pixabay CC0)
We have some of the best beaches in the world! So, rather than travelling to Benidorm for a week on the sands, and instead of heading to Bermuda for some coastline expeditions, consider the fabulous beaches we have in the UK. From the golden sands and rich seascape of St. Ives in Cornwall to the sub-tropical white sands of Appletree Bay in the Isles of Scilly, check out the previously linked article for some notable beach examples. There is much to see and do, so whether you opt for a kayak hire in Cornwall or sleep your days away on a British island paradise, know that you don’t have to travel far for a wonderful day on the beach.
#3: The UK has some of the world’s greatest beauty spots
Have you checked out the Lake District photo diary I posted a while back? With vast blue lakes, acres of greenery, and lots of picturesque villages to explore, this Cumbrian paradise is renowned for its otherworldly beauty. And what about the snowy mountain peaks in Snowdonia? Or the rugged landscapes and sandy shores of the Outer Hebrides? Or the spectacular views that can be attained when exploring the Peak District? The UK is host to a bucket list of beauty spots, so don’t assume you need to travel the globe to find those places that will delight your senses and offer you unbridled tranquility. There is much for you to discover here in the UK.
#3: The UK is chock-full of history

You don’t need to make like Indiana Jones and globe-trot the world in search of historical artifacts and monuments. There is much to explore here in the UK. Visit the prehistoric monuments of Stonehenge. Take a walk around Edinburgh Castle, the home of Mary, Queen of Scots. Indulge yourself in the Roman baths of…erm… Bath. And journey back to AD 122 with a walk along Hadrian’s Wall. Follow the link for more on these famous historical landmarks. So, no matter what period of history you find fascinating, you are bound to find something to excite and intrigue you right here in this country.
#4: It’s cheaper
Not only do you have flights to consider, baggage fees to watch out for, and hotel prices to factor into your budget when travelling abroad, but you now have (and apologies for bringing up the word you probably hate by now) Brexit to consider as well. The value of the pound has already dropped according to this article, so you’re going to get less for your money. And the prices of a holiday abroad might go up too should we ever leave the EU. So, if you are looking for an affordable holiday, for this, and for all of the other reasons we have mentioned here, you might want to consider a vacation somewhere on our own hallowed shores to benefit your pocket.
